As is already old news on the internets, DC today announced six new titles along with six cancellations.
I could not possibly be more excited for Dial H. It is, down to the cover, pretty much everything I could possibly want in a “superhero” book, I think.
DIAL H – Writer: China Miéville. Artist: Mateus Santoluoco. The first ongoing series from acclaimed novelist China Miéville, this is a bold new take on a cult classic concept about the psychological effects on an everyman who accidentally gains powers to become a hero.
Also very exciting is the new Batman Incorporated, though I wish they hadn’t scrapped the Batman: Leviathan title. It’s also kind of a bummer that this is definitely well within the new DC status quo. They should have billed it as a miniseries set “pre-New 52,” a setting they just revisited in Batman: Leviathan Strikes. A huge, huge error on DC’s part to not realize that the “Batman universe,” as realized by Grant Morrison, was about the most cohesive, best thing they had going prior to the relaunch.
BATMAN INCORPORATED – Writer: Grant Morrison. Artist: Chris Burnham. The acclaimed ongoing writer of ACTION COMICS, Grant Morrison, presents a fresh take on BATMAN INCORPORATED, in which the Batman brand is franchised globally in preparation for a major international threat.
I’m also cautiously optimistic about Earth 2 and World’s Finest.
And now, the big disappointments: O.M.A.C. is getting cancelled, as are the two books that primarily feature black leads. WILL THERE BE AN UPROAR? There may yet be!
