1,152 pages of “Infinite Crisis”

Collected Editions has spotted an Amazon.com listing for the upcoming “Infinite Crisis Omnibus,” which is apparently coming in at 1,152 pages. One massive hardcover. $150.

It must be said: on its own, Infinite Crisis isn’t really the best story ever. It’s kind of an angry mess, Batman nearly blows a dude’s head off, etc. But it came out at the right time for me and will always represent my personal “golden age” of DC Comics, I think. Even if readers weren’t thrilled by every development, it at least attempted to do some impressive things with continuity. Moreover, it was a GIGANTIC, colorful story with months of lead-in. Many, many characters were spotlighted. And it led directly into 52, an influential, year-long DC series and one of my favorite comics of all time, as well as some decent “One Year Later” books. Plus, Black Adam turns Psycho-Pirate’s face into red goop in, shall we say, a memorable turn.

I think it’s actually completely inspired for DC to collect this epic story into one tome, especially after the “New 52” reboot. We’ll have to see how willing I am to eat cup noodles for a month come July 2012, but I’ll certainly have this on my radar, if largely for the memories.
